About
A few words from the ChessDocs developer
What problem are we solving?
On the internet you can find an incredible amount of information across several areas of chess:
- opening preparation
- solving tactical puzzles
- online games
People fetishize their openings, solve puzzles from time to time, play online games — and for a long time see no improvement in their playing strength.
This isn't surprising. Chess is a complex, multi-layered system, and understanding its laws successfully requires a comprehensive approach to learning.
Project mission
To give chess amateurs verified knowledge of key chess topics in a convenient form. Here are the most important ones I want to cover:
| Topic | Why it matters to you |
|---|---|
| Strategy, planning | Winning play requires building a multi-move game scenario that accounts for the opponent's possibilities |
| Pawn structures | Knowing typical patterns lets you find plans in completely different types of positions and openings |
| Middlegame | Most games are decided right here, yet hardly anyone studies typical middlegame schemes deliberately |
| Endgame | Needed to convert an advantage at the end of the game, and also lets you save games against a technically weak opponent |
| Calculation | Most players lack an effective system for calculating variations — hence lost time and mistakes at the board |
