Counterattack
An attack made in reply to the opponent's offensive. The chance to counterattack often appears once the opponent's attack has been beaten off, as a natural response to what that attack cost them: the harmony of their pieces broken, or their position weakened. To attack, the opponent gathers their main forces on the sector under fire, so the chance to counterattack usually comes on another part of the front, the one they left thin. The counterattack is the most effective and most active method of defense.
