The purposeful arrangement of one's forces, governed by a definite plan. Piece coordination is one of the most important strategic principles of the chess fight. It begins as early as the opening, though at this stage it mainly serves the goal of harmonious piece development, and it takes on more concrete shape in the middlegame, once a side's plans come clearly into view.
