Minority attack
A standard strategic plan aimed at provoking a weakness in the opponent's position, usually on the queenside flank.
In practice, the minority attack is usually carried out by advancing White's a and b pawns against Black's pawn chain a7 (a6)-b7-c6-d5. If successful, this advance creates a weak pawn for Black and opens the way for White's pieces to break into the opponent's camp.
