Simplification

A method that turns a complicated position into a simpler one. You simplify the position by trading pieces and pawns, changing its character so that the play gets less sharp. Simplifying the position pays off when one side holds a material or positional advantage that is easier to convert in the endgame, or in a sharp position, where simplification lowers the danger of an attack.
