Position

The arrangement of forces on the chessboard. With every move by either side, the position changes, and both players must constantly assess the resulting positions, taking into account the hidden features and possibilities within them — something essential for choosing the right plan.

The term "position" is also used in a narrower sense, meaning the placement of a single piece or pawn.
